8月份廣播主題:白目、機車鬼的英文怎麼說?
2017年 08月 15日~08月 31日
Hi everyone, welcome to Laura's "Say this, not that!"
大家好,歡迎來到 Laura的「救菜英文」!
A lot of my students in Taiwan like to translate word to word for fun sometimes. Like "OMG, you're so motorcycle!" or "Go away, you're so white eye."
很多 臺灣的 學生很喜歡 ,為了好玩把一些中文 故意逐字翻成英。像是,「天 像是,「天 啊!你真的很 motorcycle(機車)耶!」或是「煩你真的很 white eye(白 目)」。 目)」。 目)」。
Well, if you're speaking to a native speaker of English that has been here long enough, they might get the joke. But those who probably don't know Chinese slang that well might have no idea what you mean.
當然了, 如果你是和來台灣比較久的歪國人這樣鬧著玩,他們可能懂梗。 但是如果不熟台灣口語的老外就會聽得霧煞
OK, in Chinese, the term 'jiche' as in 'ni hao jiche', is used to describe people who are annoying or a pain in the neck. So instead of saying you're so motorcycle, the correct English expression would be "You're so annoying” or "You're such a pain"
在中文 裡, 我們說「你好機車」的可以用來形容超令人討厭,眼 中釘。 所以如果要把「你好機車」翻成英文,正確的說法可用 " You're so annoying 或 "You're such a pain!"
OK, another commonly mistranslated phrase is..."white eye," 'baimu'. There's no exact translation to this, but the closest term I would use is "insensitive."
好啦 ,另一個很常亂翻錯的字還有 white eye…也就是白目啦 。在英文裡沒有直 接對應的單字,所以 最貼近的說法可以用 insensitive這個字。
If you're insensitive, it means you do not know or care about the feelings of other people. So for example, if you know somebody who is 'baimu', you could say "he's arude, insensitive jerk.". Or, if somebody says something very 'baimu', you can say something like... "OMG, it was insensitive of her to say that!
這個字可以用來形容,你無視或不在乎其他人的感受。舉例說如果認識一個很白目的人,你就 說「他是個無禮又白目的人」。 說「他是個無禮又白目的人」。 或者,如果有人講話很白 目,你可以說 ..天啊,她那樣說好白目唷! 天啊,她那樣說好白目唷!
Well, hope you liked today's video. 好啦,希望你們喜歡今天的影片。
